BEATLES - MARTIN APOLOGISES TO REPLACED BEATLES DRUMMER

ABOUT TIME SOMEONE SPEAKS OUT THAT PETE WAS DONE WRONG.

Legendary producer SIR GEORGE MARTIN has made a public apology to replaced BEATLES drummer PETE BEST. The 66-year-old musician was part of the fab four from 1960 to 1962, before Ringo Starr was drafted into the band to take his place - and the music mogul now insists he feels "guilty" over the dismissal. Martin authorised the change just before the Beatles shot to fame, with Best going on to work as a civil servant for 20 years before establishing his own band years later. Martin says, "I felt guilty. Maybe I was the catalyst that changed his life."

Yikes. Is there a link for where and when he said that ?

Catalyst ?

rhetorical question but perhaps feeling guilty for being catalyst for something that didn't need to happen?

no matter though. Long ago and far away. I'm glad to see that the recogntion and respect from them the past is catching up to where it belongs.

Thanks for posting L5.

Talking Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

It's very sad that our Pete had to wait almost 50 years but thank God it finally came. Perhaps there are others including _______ (you fill in the blank) who will step up and just say "sorry, we could have handled that better" or something to that effect. And despite decades of trying to sweep Pete's mere existence in Beatles history under the rug, this makes it clear that key players, at least Sir George Martin, have never forgotten about that time and "the man who put the beat in the Beatles."

The only one up in Liverpool to share the news with was our Tony. 12:30am and the scousers were all tucked into bed. They must be resting up for the tour!

Exclamation It's about time

How many years has George Martin had to live with this on his mind? He made his money with the Fab Four and the majority of the original band is not with us anymore. I would have loved to have lived in George Martins head all those past years. It was along time ago but it is still nice to hear this from the person that was so instrumental in The Beatles career. As I said before, you can't change history and I'm sure we will all be hearing more on this subject. Pete will always be The Beatles original drummer and The Man That Put The Beat In The Beatles.

Earthquake in Liverpool 01:06ish 27/02/08

No sooner had Terri rang me too tell me the news about Sir Georges comment and within 5 minutes we had an official earthquake, is there a connection? i think not but i thought it was worth mentioning.
Maybe the news has reached John and George and thats there way of saying sorry.
who knows, but it was pretty exciting though and so is the news about Georges,s comment, I,m sure there will be many new views on what has been said, i personally think its the right thing too do, maybe he could make it up too Pete by mixing one of the album tracks( if we let him).
See you all in MayYyYyYyYyyYyyyYY

I'll be damned, but I have no shame admitting that my eyes misted a wee bit as I read these posts with a nice smile of "that's sounded darn nice".

Reminds me of same goosebumpelly feeling I got when George Bailey looks to the heavens when Clarence finally got his wings in "It's a Wonderful Life". "..attaboy Clarence..."

Way to go Sir George Martin..."attaboy". You just done REAL good.

Maybe it was Mo causing those earthquakes.

Thanks for the posting from Liverpool BillyH.

attaboy Sir George. the recognition was due. thank you sir.

Using the term "I'm shocked...and stunned" is just WAY too easy to say right now!

It's about damn time! Thank you, Tour Lady for turning me onto this historical news. And you better believe that the earthquake was no coincidence! That 4.3 (some sources say 4.7) was actually Brian, John, George and Mal ALL jumping up and down on the dance floor in Club Rock & Roll Heaven, to wake Pete up out of his sleep...to let him know "today is YOUR day, mate! We owe you this".

I'll bet Mo TOLD them to jump, though....and they obliged.

The only thing that is doesn't sit right is that I haven't found any articles (via The Google) that say Sir George outright apologized. He said he feels 'guilty'. OK. Fair. Calling himself a "catalyst"? If so, he needs a catalytic converter....and he's still not saying "I'm sorry, Pete...please forgive me." Maybe that is on the way in a different arena.

One can only hope. But this is brilliant news!

bump.

(agreeing with hof's comment. it must have been solicited somehow but in what context ? Surely it can't be the first time the subject crossed his mind in 40+ years ? )

GM may have been the catalyst, but there was no way to know the eventual outcomes, but what prompted the guilty feelings ? was it in '62...or upon reflection later on?.. or recent reflections?.

It's all good though. Let's keep moving forward.

Reflective Destiny. words to live by.
