Mrs Best And The Beatles or Mother Of Mersey Beat

Roag (Me, writing in the third person as I do sometimes) is busy writing the book which is the predecessor of "The Beatles, The True Beginnings" The book starts with Mo Bests upbringing in India, her wild encounters, of which there were many. What was going on with the family, of which there was much, her coming to Liverpool, and her influence on not only The Beatles, but the other groups i.e. Merseybeat. I hear you say wasn't that covered in "The Beatles, The True Beginnings" Well, no. Not if you take into consideration that 35000 words had to be edited out, to get the book to fall within the publishers budget at the time of delivery, The Beatles, The True Beginnings is 25000 words, so more than half the book had to go, and trying to edit it down was a nightmare i.e. What do you leave in? What do you leave out? It was ridiculously difficult, and a lot of really really great stuff just didn't get in, which was sad, but not anymore. There's a whole bunch of stuff you still don't know. I'll keep you posted.

thanks roag. I was surprised to see how intrigued and impressed my own mrs and some of her freinds were they saw/heard of Mo in the dvd back in '05. Neither of them knew anything abuot pre-1964 or Pete or anything. I can easily see such a book about Mo gettign some great traction, especially with a female audience. Okay, now get back to work.

What's always struck me is just how woven in the woof was the Best family presence in postwar Liverpool. The prequel will be a fascinating, terrific addition to the True Beginnings book; there had to be a true beginning to the true beginning and this is the kind of story that can reeeeally give you a sense of time and place, even if you've never set foot in Merseyside. I look forward to a good read!

Mona Best was "the Mother of PsychEdelic Art"

Dear Roag,
Great idea for the book on Mona Best! She really is "the Mother of Psychedelic Art" with all that great art at the Casbah Club. I hope you cover this in the book.

Thanks Roag: Be sure to keep us posted as to the progress. I'd like to get a nice autographed copy(if you wouldn't mind) as soon as it's available.

Hi Roag! Ah yes, Mona...what an absolutely amazing woman she was! I really enjoyed reading all about her in The True Beginnings....she was ahead of her time that's for sure!
Thanks for all the writing, drumming and other stuff you do for the fans. We will look forward to the next book of Mona's & her "encounters"!

Cheers,
Paula

What R The Chances?

The PBB should consider adding MONA (I NEED YOU BABY) into their repertiore!

The Ellas Bates song, released as a B-side in 1957, (credited to Ellas McDaniel bna Bo Diddley) would make a great addition to the PBB setlist & consequnetly honor the memory of Mrs. Mona Best!

Mona Best certainly deserves to the subject topic of her own Biography.
